Owl Eyes
First be inspired by this beautiful You Tube video, a tribute to owls. Notice their magestic flight and remarkable eyes! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55SSd5MUKus
Owls have a large head with large eyes that face forward, wherein most other birds eyes are on the sides of their head. This eye placement gives owls remarkable binocular vision with very precise depth perception. There are circles of radiating feathers surrounding each eye, giving them a striking alert wide-eyed look.
Owls can't move their eyes within their sockets like humans can. The eyes are locked in their skull. They conpensate for this by being able to move their heads around with a range of about 270 degrees.
In Nature Connections class we will be learning an exercise that will help students fine tune their own eyesight with what we call "owl eyes" or learning to see the view at their sit spot from an owl's wide angle perspective. Stay tuned for the wide angel vision exercise if you haven't experienced it already!
