The Sit Spot
The sit spot is the most important place for you to learn nature's lessons. It is your experiential classroom. Choosing your sit spot can be very simple or extremely complex and take several months to decide. My first sit spot took me about a month to choose because I had 112 acres to explore. Then when I moved to West Virginia on five acres, my choices were more limited and it took me about a few weeks to find the general area. It then took many more weeks to decide upon the exact comfortable sitting location, which ended up being three large rock slabs, of which I carefully survey each time before being seated for fear of snakes crawling up from beneath. Enjoy different views below of and from my sit spot rock or "sit rock" as I lovingly call it.
For the best nature connecting experience it is strongly suggested that students find a nice, comfortable spot in their backyard or woods on their property with age appropriate parental guidance.
Students can go to their sit spot one or more times per week, anywhere from at least 5 - 10 minutes or longer. Students will observe what is happening in nature around their special spot, practice using their senses, journal about their experiences, try different nature connecting activities at their spot and share their experiences in the NC live virtual class.
Students can take pictures and videos of their sit spot nature connecting experience to enrich their experiences.
As of May 2013 I became a full time RVer. Now, my sit spot is wherever my campervan is parked!

Here is a fun movie clip to introduce the Sit Spot experience. Obviously when I put this video together, I was teaching the course, which isn't available live, but students can still do the exercises independently.
