Guidelines for edible and medicinal wild plants
- Always have a knowledgeable adult with you helping to select wild plants for edible or medicinal uses.
- Select wild plants that you know have not been sprayed with toxic pesticides.
- Choose plants that are away from the road about 50 feet or more. It's best to select from plants that are very far away from car exhaust.
- Select wild plants sparingly and only some leaves and flowers from each plant so as to allow it to keep growing.
- Use wisely and again with adult supervision.
- Know the poisonous look-alikes of the plants you are looking to eat or use medicinally.
- Get to know well the poisonous plants of your local area.
