- Basic Bobcats - pages 74 - 78 - Activity Summary - This features several journal activities listing mammals you've seen and know are in your local area. The exercise concludes with drawing your favorite animal.
- Mid Merlins - pages 79 - 82 - Activity Summary - In this activity, students make three journal entries about local mammals including sketches.
- Old Oaks - pages 83 - 86 - Activity Summary - This activity builds on Mid Merlins. Students journal about three new mammals with additional information added.

This is a photo of my Northern Short-tailed Shrew journal page. Notice the detail that was put into the drawings of the skeleton, forefeet, skull and musculature. Students can include as much detail as I did or shrink it down to the basices including the 1). "wrapper" sketch of the animal (with all of it intack..skin, bones & fur), 2). a general description,
3). Habitat, 4). Diet and 5). Range. The sketches are simple, but I tried to be detailed as well. You can view actual skulls and bones of critters from a great website called Skulls Unlimited.com. You can make sketches right from the website.
