Bushcraft/Survival Skills Page
Bushcraft is a long-term extension of survival skills. Bushcraft is a term for wilderness skills in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. It has recently gained popularity in the United Kingdom due to the popularity of Ray Mears and his bushcraft and survival television programmes.
Bushcraft is about using ancient skills and knowledge for surviving and living well in the natural environment. Skills include; firecraft, tracking, hunting, fishing, shelter building, the use of tools such as knives and axes, foraging, hand-carving wood, container construction from natural materials, rope and twine-making, and more. These are the kinds of skills well known to ancient cultures, many of which are still practiced today as an everyday skill amongst aboriginal and native peoples around the world.
Natureglo's Primitive Skills Experiences - Summer 2010
In May, 2010, I had the opportunity to go to a MAPS Meet (Mid-Atlantic Primitive Skills). Most of us tent camped. I stayed in my tent in the forest and helped out in the kitchen part-time to take care of half of my tuition. It was a wonderful experience and I learned so many new skills I'll keep with me for the rest of my life. Below is a slideshow of the meet. Enjoy!
